alpha nova & galerie futura cordially invites you to the presentation of the new book “Alright, it means something to me“ by Austrian artist and author Sophie Aigner.
Sophie Aigner’s artistic practice revolves around the searching human being and the depiction of fragility and instability – be it in the form of loose knots, slanted boards or falling bricks. These images, which can also be found in her sculptural work, also run through her artist’s book, which has just been published by Verlag für Moderne Kunst Wien.

In the publication, Aigner explores the concept of voids and losses – from holes which literally dug into the earth to irretrievable moments in life. Through a combination of unglazed ceramic objects, aphoristic texts and digital photomontages, she creates connections between the material and immaterial. Whether it is a brick that appears in an ever-changing form, or personal relics such as a piece of umbilical cord or the bone of a living mother, these fragments tell stories about relationships, memory and the longing to hold on in a world that is constantly changing.

In the book’s texts, Aigner reflects on these motifs and the way in which they shape our experience of relationships and memories. The publication can be seen as a subtle interplay between the ephemeral and the attempt to somehow hold on to the fleeting.
