Exhibition and project in public space by Mikala Hyldig Dal and alpha nova & galerie futura in cooperation with SUPERFILIALE, Haus Lausitzer Str. 10, Prinzessinnengärten Kreuzberg and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien.

Zukunftsland 2099 is curated by Mikala Hyldig Dal, Katharina Koch, Dorothea Nold.

Artists: Nora Al-Badri, Lisa Glauer, Mikala Hyldig Dal, Dorothea Nold, Franziska Pierwoss, SUPERFILIALE (Markus Born & Markus Zimmermann)

Berlin 2099: precarious jobs and fear for one’s livelihood are water under the bridge, artists and residents are fairly paid, studios and flats are affordable again, and there are once again free spaces available in the city – where one can dream, create, experiment, and make art. A strong civic society supports the realized utopia: people of different origins and backgrounds dedicate themselves to the common good.
Zukunftsland 2099 wants to conjure the utopian free spaces that we strive for in the present. For many Berliners (including most artists), existence in 2019 is determined by precarious working and living conditions. Instead of criticizing the status quo, Zukunftsland 2099 wants to bring visions of a more just society to life – in an exhibition taking place at alpha nova & galerie futura between 10.5. and 8.6.2019 and using the format of a bus tour through Berlin-Kreuzberg, which represents the central feature of this project.
As with a classic sightseeing tour, the participants are led to places in the district that, like the former Cuvry Brache, have succumbed to gentrification; to those who harbor initiatives threatened by displacement (the tenants of Lausitzer Str. 10 and the Kotti & Co initiative, for example), or who could evade gentrification and are not used commercially (Prinzessinnengärten, Kunstquartier Bethanien).
Slipping into the role of a tour guide from the year 2099, the artist Mikala Hyldig Dal takes the visitors on the bus tour “Berlin Utopian Tours” through 80 years of a fictional urban history of Berlin, offering a retrospective chronicle from a positive-visionary perspective. An App developed by the artist projects 3D images that emerge from this fictional history and utopian future scenarios onto real, existing places: Hyldig Dal has named these virtual objects monuments of the future. The artists Nora Al-Badri, Lisa Glauer, Franziska Pierwoss, SUPERFILIALE (Markus Zimmermann & Markus Born) and Dorothea Nold contribute to Zukunftsland 2099 with performative interventions along the bus tour and in the exhibition. Over the course of the project, from 10.5 until 8.6.2019, the spatial and video installation SUPERFILIALE Utopian Tours can be experienced at alpha nova & galerie futura. The exhibition space simultaneously serves as a meeting point and archive, as a space of exchange and artistic production.

Exhibition SUPERFILIALE Utopian Tours

installation by SUPERFILIALE (Markus Born & Markus Zimmermann) and Mikala Hyldig Dal

11.5.-8.6.2019 // Wed-Sat // 16:00-19:00

A walk-through tunnel lies diagonally in the room, whose entrance and exit are formed by triangles. The branch is constructed with simple means from white painted wooden strips and light gauze, which gives the view enough resistance to be able to project images on it.
Individual elements protrude diagonally from the SUPERFILIALE and break up the horizontal line. SU.FI Utopian Tours customers watch videos on the tunnel-mounted screen or on the screen formed by the outside walls of the store.
The spatial and video installation SUPERFILIALE Utopian Tours invites you to walk, linger, watch, listen, and marvel. The projection and monitor surfaces embedded in the space show five virtual, site-specific sculptures; multiple listening stations invite you to listen to visionary stories related to urban and neighborhood history independent of the bus tour, therefore allowing a broader public to experience Zukunftsland 2099.

This comic comments „Pimmelsuppen-Phenomena“ while building herstories about Precarious Artistic Researcher bouncing off various „Man Suit Barriers“ she encounters during her dealings with institutionalized patriarchy. 18:30 Talk & Tasting “Mexican for all” by Franziska Pierwoss at alpha nova & galerie futura

The Mexican is a mixed drink made from corn schnapps, tomato juice, and Maggi. Invented in Hamburg, the cocktail served in a schnapps glass has been a dependable element of the beverage selection at local pubs in Berlin. For a moderate price, this drink is also offered in many bars in the so-called “Schillerkiez.” Few districts have undergone such rapid change in the past ten years as the residential area on Hermannstraße in Neukölln. Sophisticated new construction projects like the 12053 are now directly opposite the social housing of the Rollbergviertel. Franziska Pierwoss invites bus tour guests and other interested parties to a public talk with local residents and political experts. Questions of renting, visionary new construction, political responsibility, and the power aid payments will be discussed over a snack together.

18:00 Görlitzer Park (in opposite of the play ground in the back part of the park: https://goo.gl/maps/3bTLbgSRxyfM8xgt9):
Talk with Moro Yapha (social media activist and working with Wearebornfreeberlin Empowerment Radio), Bhrigupati Singh (Department of Anthropology, Brown University/Fellow, Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin) and Nora Al-Badri (artist)

Concept by Nora Al-Badri.

Nora Al-Badri lives and works directly next to Görlitzer Park. Almost everyday she passes by dreaming of the endless possibilities of Görli. How will the Görli 2099 feel like?
What if the dealers would sell art instead of narcotic substances? Both economies are opaque. Would it democratise the art market if you could get your daily dose of art at any given corner? Maybe the Görli could become the new hub for dealing with African art in Europe! Artworks from Africa are well looked after in the museums, but the body politics in the park, in Berlin, in Germany, and in Europe are inhumane.

Future Architecture

Interventions in public space by Dorothea Nold
10.5.-8.6.2019 // public space Kreuzberg

Dorothea Nold designs several construction site posters situated along the bus route. Formally, they resemble the omnipresent signs announcing construction projects, but they advertise for imaginary, futuristic-grotesque construction projects that do not (yet) exist. The artistic development announcements are placed at selected locations such as Oranienplatz, Moritzplatz, Mariannenplatz, and the Arena Areal over a period of four weeks – modeled after the signs that can be found in front of construction sites. Thus, ideas and desires for building projects in this day and age are visualized. At the same time, the signs are also irritating, however, if the last open spaces are supposedly to be developed with new absurdities.
